This book was very hard to get in to. The use of footnotes to tell full side-stories is very different. I am also lucky I speak Spanish or half of the story would have been unknown to me. The hardest part was the time line of the story, it jumped around a bit and sometimes I was confused about who was the narrator. Junot Díaz has a very interesting writing style, at times it was not my cup of tea...but I am very glad that I pulled through and finished the book.I am not sure who I would recommend this book to, they would definitely need to speak Spanish, but other than that I am not sure. In the end I did like it, I think I mostly appreciate it for how different it is. I like the fact that the characters could have actually existed and they could have been put through all of it. I also like the mixture of languages, it adds something to the story...maybe it's what makes it less fictional!
